“Consider it not so deeply.”
~Lady Macbeth
Best Short Film receives an Academic Award every year. Kobe Bryant won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2018 for “Dear Basketball.” In 2026, Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro, was nominated in the Adapted Screenplay category but lost to Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.
In AP Lit, we decided to make a short film out of a short story, but students had the chance to adapt the script. They asked me about how many minutes the video should last, and I didn’t reply. Creativity knows no boundaries.
The objective was to learn how to write an adapted screenplay inspired by a short story, which involves layers of analytical reasoning: narrative structure, technical quality, convincing portrayal of characters, visual effects to enhance storytelling, and a lasting impression on the audience. It’s a project.
I evaluated the adapted screenplay, but students themselves were the ones who voted for the Best Short Film.

Congratulations to all AP Lit students for completing your masterpiece. Thank you for your commitment and originality. Hope you enjoyed this project as much as I enjoyed your short films. You inspire me to become a better teacher. May God bless you a thousand times.
