The Elite: A Discovery of Witches

ree

In a world dominated by humans, creatures hide. Their time on Earth is no more, and the world is punishing them. They are growing weaker each day, each birth, and no one knows why. It's a small group's quest now to find out why, to find why are the once dominant creatures of this world dying out and disappearing from it. A truly spectacular piece made by Deborah Harkness as executive producer and creator of the book series it’s based on. It shows us a union of love between two creatures, different in nature, and never destined to be together. They are the ultimate solution for their ever-growing problem: extinction.

Diana Bishop, our protagonist was played by Teresa Palmer, and she is a witch with concealed power. She never knew of this world, in efforts by her parents to protect her from others who want to control her. But one day, when she had contact with a very special book that chose her, her powers slowly awakened and the seal within her started to deteriorate. Finding this book, Ashmole 782, was a searched book not just by Diana but by other creatures. Some who wanted to use it to learn how to control the other races and become supreme in power, and some who wanted to search for the solution to their extinction. This group, who searched for their salvation, was the one where Diana found her lover, Mathew.

Their love bloomed, and it led her into her past and heritage. She understood that she had a destiny to fulfill, a race to save, and that she was the key to it all. With her now lost book of life-made into something else-she needs to find it somewhere else and figure out how to unlock its secrets to be able to understand all creatures' past. After finding it and coming back, she is faced with another terror that didn't care for the book but cared to destroy her. They gave up on finding the book because they knew that they could not take it off her, so they figured that they could destroy her; and what better way to do that than through the destruction of what you love the most.

Satu and her party set to kill her, and her family, and they captured Mathew. They tortured him, made him go through unfathomable things. Diana knew that she had to rid Satu of the board, to be able to save her children’s father, but she never wanted to hurt her. Diana never wanted to hurt anyone, but her hand was forced. And when she unlocked the tenth knot-the most powerful of magic-she killed her party and locked Satu's magic away. Her husband was saved, but what of her people?

So she goes back to the congregation, the base where vile, vicious, and hungry for power creatures meet in a civil matter. She presented the book of life, and evidence of her existence, and her impossibly born sons; creatures born out of distinct races. The solution to their extinction led to something cultural, seemed impossible and unworthy. The races of creatures were never meant to be divided, towered with layers of power, but conjoined. These races needed each other to live, or they would lose their powers. The product of this generation, and the next, was no longer a solitary creation, but one they would forge together.

And even now, it seems like Diana left a grain on me. Now understanding that our power doesn’t lie solely in each of us, but in all of us together.

Truly incredible and one of the Elites. Watch now on Netflix and Prime Video!!!!
