It’s been a long time since I have been able to see and appreciate an anime series. Yet, I’ve come to appreciate those titles that aren’t drama or emotionally supercharged. Animes like Mashle Magic and Muscles which was created by Hajime Komoto, and its protagonist, Chiaki Koboyashi. The series provides a twist for a kind of storyline seen in countless others. Where instead of the protagonist being powerful in a world of magic, he is strong on its opposite.
While everyone else is born and has abilities tied to magic, he was born without those abilities and is challenged in life to search for power far from magic itself. It’s a comedy, so it may seem a little stupid, but he finds power in his muscles. But in this world, such a creature is hated and illegal. He tries his best to hide the fact that he has no magic, but it is made almost impossible to achieve greatness without revealing it. At one moment, the moment of reveal, he faced great strife. His mere existence was frowned upon and hated upon. But he will never give up.
Mash enters this school, a magic school. His goal is to become a Divine Visionary: a person of high status and power, who can rule the laws of the world. This desire is deeply rooted in saving his father, but more in turn of changing the world so that people can accept him.
He will not lose. He doesn’t care whether he needs to punch his way to victory. All his battles, no matter how reality warping have ended in victory. He defies all the rules, all the laws, all rules that make up this horrible world for the better. I know he’ll get there.
